2. Objectives of our research

Metabolic disorder is one of causes of intractable diseases, such as neuronal degenerative-disorders and hepatitis. We focused on molecular mechanisms of the cause and the exacerbation of these diseases, which identified some of proteins involved in the disorders. For example, a member of protein kinase named as Salt-inducible-kinase (SIK) regulates responses to oxidative stresses and determines delivery and storage of nutritional energy. Dysregulation of SIK signaling results in a loss of resistance to oxidative stresses and enhances vulnerability to hepatitis.

To discover ways to overcome these disorders, we identified some of compounds that were capable of regulating the SIK signaling. In addition, we are preparing spontaneous disease models, eg. paralysis, dyslipidemia and hepatitis.
